Indian weddings often have several events, and the time of day shapes what feels right. A simple rule: lighter and brighter by day, richer and deeper by night.
Day ceremonies
- Colours: pastels, florals, ivory with colour, soft pinks, peach, mint and sky blue.
- Fabrics: cotton silk, chanderi, mulmul and linen blends — breathable for hours in the sun.
- Silhouettes: straight kurta sets, A-line kurtas with dupattas, light anarkalis.
Evening receptions
- Colours: jewel tones — wine, emerald, navy, deep purple, gold.
- Fabrics: silk blends, chanderi with zari, velvet in winter.
- Details: zari borders, gota, embroidery and statement jewellery.
A few courtesies
- Avoid bridal red unless the family has asked for it — leave that to the bride.
- Many families avoid all-black and all-white at weddings; check if you are unsure.
- If there is a dress code or theme, follow it — it makes the photos lovely.
- Carry a shawl or stole for winter evenings and air-conditioned halls.
For men
Day: a cotton or linen kurta in a pastel with churidar or pants. Evening: a silk-blend kurta, a bandhgala, or a kurta with a contrasting jacket. Explore men’s clothing.
